Alejandro V. “Jando” Marquez of Sanderson entered rest on January 02, 2020, at the age of 89. He was born April 10, 1930, in Sanderson, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Olivares Marquez.
Alejandro “Jando” was born and raised in Sanderson. As a life-long resident, in the 1950’s, he helped construct the highway leading to Big Bend National Park. He later worked for the Texas Highway Department and Frank’s Super Service Station in Sanderson. In 1967, he began his employment with the Southern Pacific Railroad as a crane operator. He retired in 1992, and spent his remaining years enjoying the company of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; sons Eliberto Marquez and wife Theresa of Dripping Springs, Texas, and David Marquez and wife, Michelle, of El Paso, Texas; daughters Eulalia Munoz and husband Carlos, of Austin, Texas, and Yolanda Sanchez and husband Ray, of Sanderson, Texas.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Alejandro Marquez and Petra V. Marquez; brothers Sabas Marquez and Cruz Marquez; and sisters Gudelia Lopez, Anita Rodriguez, Reynalda Hernandez, and Isidora Mancha.
Visitation will be from 11AM-1PM on Monday, January 6th, 2020 at St. James Catholic Church, 209 E. Hackberry Street, in Sanderson, Texas with Rosary to begin at 1PM. Services will follow at 2PM, also held at St. James Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Santa Rita Cemetery.
