Alice Elizabeth Varner passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015, in Fort Stockton at the age of 80 years. Alice was born on November 6, 1934, to Fred Rodgers and Murtice Simpson in Gorman, TX.
She has lived in Fort Stockton since 1955. She was part owner of Fraley Butane Company in Fort Stockton for thirty-four years and owner of the Flower Shop for twenty-seven years. She was an election official for twenty years. She also sat on the city of Fort Stockton cemetery board for several years. She was a great friend and helped with many other organizations. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Fort Stockton.
Alice is survived by her husband (Tobe) Doris Wayne Varner; daughters, Sherri Varner Todd and husband Dewayne of Lubbock, TX, and Shela Varner Strother and husband Emery R. of Fort Stockton; her brothers, Freddie Rodgers and wife Kay of Gorman, TX, and Joe Bob Rodgers and wife Karen of Fayetteville, AR; her sister LaVenia Rodgers Echols of Eastland, TX; her three grandchildren, Page Dickson, Zohna Todd, and Trey Strother and wife Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Madison Dickson, and Breanna and John Michael Strother; and one great-great grandchild Cheslee Wade.
Alice was preceded in death by her mother and father Fred and Murtice Rodgers.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home in downtown Fort Stockton from 6-8pm. Funeral will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at 3pm at the Church of Christ in Fort Stockton officiated by Darryl Scott. Graveside service will be at 2pm on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Gorman, TX.
