Antonio Calzada

Antonio Gonzalez Calzada of Sanderson, TX passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the age of 92 years. Antonio lovingly known as "Tony/Toño" or "Gramps" was a lifelong resident of Sanderson. He was born on July 19, 1926 to Jesus Calzada and Francisca Gonzalez Calzada.

Antonio married Edelmira Coronado on September 7, 1947. The couple were married for 71 years and raised three children: Yolanda Connelly, Josie Hernandez, and Tony Calzada, Jr. He worked in the mohair business for over 50 years, with 38 years spent at the Sanderson Wool Commission. He spent his retirement enjoying his family and drinking coffee with his friends. Toño was an active member of the Catholic Church.

Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters, son Tony, his grandson Javier Rubio; granddaughter, Melissa Cruz, and great-grandchildren Chassidy Ramirez and James Cruz.

He is survived by his wife Edelmira, daughters Yolanda and Josie, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Ruben Cruz, Ricky Cruz, Rene Rubio, Tony Calzada III, Alex Romo, Jr., Jeremy Calzada, Andy Romo, Victor Calzada, Eric Rubio, and Trinidad Rubio.

A viewing and Rosary will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2019, from 3-8 at St. James Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 2pm at St. James Catholic Church. Burial to follow immediately after at the Santa Rita Cemetery.
