Blanche Salinas Garcia, of San Antonio, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the age of 87. She was born on October 16, 1931, in San Antonio, to Nicolas and Francisca Salinas.
Blanche was raised in Sanderson. She and her husband, Joe C. Garcia, were married on February 23, 1948 and moved to Fort Stockton in 1952. Blanche was a devout Catholic and had a very strong faith and devotion to the Holy Rosary. While living in Fort Stockton, she was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, serving as a CCE teacher, member of the Guadalupanas, Sacred Heart Society, and served as a Eucharist Minister. She was also a member of the church choir. Blanche was a leader and presenter for the Life in The Spirit seminars. She received training as a paraprofessional counselor and alcohol/drug abuse counselor. Blanche and her husband, Joe, were service station owners before their retirement. Blanche and Joe moved to San Antonio in 2011. Her hobbies included cooking for her family, sewing, reading, and she was a talented artist.
Blanche is survived by her husband, Joe C. Garcia; her daughter, Rosalinda Rubio and her husband Raul; her son, Joe A. Garcia, Jr. and his wife, Nina; her 5 grandchildren: Nunie Rubio, Robert Jason Rubio, Anthony Rubio, Naomi Garcia Alvarez, and Nick Garcia; her 16 great grandchildren; her 3 great-great grandchildren; and her cousin, Valentin Barrera, Jr.
Blanche is preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas and Francisca Salinas. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 3, 2019, from 2pm-7pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Stockton, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, March 4, 2019, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Downtown Campus at 10 am in Fort Stockton. Burial will follow at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery.
