Camilo Mongaro Celaya passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016, in Fort Stockton at the age of 83 years. Camilo was born on July 18, 1932, to Pedro Celaya and Margarita Mongaro in San Vicente, TX. He resided in Fort Stockton for over 70 years. After 38 years, he retired from the Texas Highway Department. He loved to work, loved taking care of and being with his family. He loved to go camping, fishing, and deer hunting. He enjoyed being outdoors, barbequing, and gardening. He volunteered and was an usher at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was well respected in the community, had a great sense of humor, and loved to sing and dance.
Camilo is survived by his son, Israel Celaya of Ft. Stockton; his five daughters, Norma Bueno and husband Joe of Fort Stockton, Linda Tellez and husband Javier of Granite Shoals, TX, Carol Gonzales and husband Michael of Fort Stockton, Regina Benavides and husband Jesus of Fort Stockton, and Rebecca Bustamante and husband Miguel of Austin; his three brothers, Nasario Celaya of Fort Stockton, Lucas Celaya of Fort Stockton, and Chon Celaya of Odessa; his five sisters, Canuta Dominguez of Fort Stockton, Lupe Gonzales of Fort Stockton, Petra Celaya of Fort Stockton, Margarita Celaya of Fort Stockton, and Lucy Scott of Odessa; his 26 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.
Camilo was preceded in death by his wife, Esperanza Celaya; his parents, Pedro and Margarita Celaya; his grandson, Javier "JJ" Tellez; his brothers, Gonzalo and Ramon Celaya; and his sister Julia Escareño.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 8th, 2016, from 11am-6pm and on Saturday morning, January 9th, 2016, from 10am-12pm at Heritage Funeral Home in downtown Fort Stockton. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night, January 8th, 2016, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Stockton. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday afternoon, January 9th, 2016, starting at 2p.m., at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Stockton. Burial will follow at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery.
