Don D. Maxey passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 in Fort Stockton at the age of 85 years. Don was born on February 22, 1929 in Chilton, Texas to
Walter Lee and Coyal. He attended schools in Chilton. He was known for his smile and great sense of humor. Don Maxey leaves a legacy of service his to Lord and Savior and to many family and friends. He followed family members to Fort Stockton where he fell in love with West Texas which he called home for over 65 years. He met and married his wife, Nell on July 22, 1951. Don began his career working as a butcher for Safeway and Stockton Packing Co. He later was a television technician for the Melody Shop and finished his career as a Measurement Technician with Enron.
For over 30 years Don faithfully served as a member of the Fort Stockton Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as the fire chief for a number of years. An active member of the Fort Stockton Church of Christ, Don served as a deacon, elder, song leader, and in numerous outreach ministries to church members and the community.
Mr. Maxey is survived by his wife, Nell three daughters, Mary Ann Arreguin and husband Steve, Alice Baker and husband Don, Jeannie Herman and husband Jim, and Amy Van Etten and husband Clint son Malcom Maxey nine Grandchildren and ten great grandchildren sister, Martha Vaughn numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents brothers, Byron, W.L. Lee, Jack, Billie and Bobbie Frank sisters, Ida Maxey, Pearl Sutherland, Rachel Maxey, Doris Owens and one son, John.
Visitation will take place 2:004:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, at Heritage Funeral Home in downtown Fort Stockton. Funeral service will take place at the Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 16th with a burial following at East Hill Cemetery.
