Doris "Tobe" Wayne Varner of Fort Stockton passed away Tuesday June 14th, 2016, in Fort Stockton at the age of 82 years. Tobe was born on September 19, 1933, to Chessley H. Varner and Esther Trammell Varner.
Tobe worked for Firestone for 33 years as a test driver. He owned Tobe Varner Construction for custom plowing, fencing, and backyard buildings. He also worked for Petron as a driver, and with VLM Enterprise. He drilled his own gas well.
Tobe is survived by his daughters, Sherri Varner Todd and her husband Dewayne of Lubbock, Shela Varner Strother and her husband Emery of Fort Stockton; his brothers, Delmar Varner and his wife Glenda of Fort Worth, Dwayne Varner of Weatherford; his sister, Deborah Smallwood and her husband Richard of Paris; his sister in law, Glenda Varner of Katy; his grandchildren, Page Dickson of Lubbock, Zohna Todd of Lubbock, Trey Strother and his wife Rachel of San Angelo; his great grandchildren, Ashley and Madison Dickson of Lubbock, Breanna and John Michael Strother of San Angelo; and his great great grandchild Cheslee Wade of Lubbock.
Tobe is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Varner; his parents, Chessley H. Varner and Esther Trammell Varner; his brother, Dennis Varner.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 16th, 2016, from 5:30pm-7pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Stockton, Texas. A Devotional Service will begin at 7pm June 16th, at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, June 18th, 2016, in Gorman, Texas.
