Edith Smith Kipgen was born Feb. 19, 1925 in Corsicana, TX. Edith was raised on West Texas ranches in Pecos and Brewster counties. Her Dad was an old- time cowboy, and taught her to ride at an early age. In her mid-teens she "broke" and trained 3 and 4 year old colts for ranchers J.W. "Skinny" Friend and Joe Parker in the Glass Mountains.
She attended high school in Fort Davis and Alpine, where she graduated, with honor, then attended Sul Ross for a year. She was a secretary at Marfa Army Air Field, during 1944, and Elliott & Waldron in Ft. Stockton.
In 1946, Edith married Vic Kipgen in Fort Stockton. Both of her children were born there. The family lived in Midland, TX .thru 1970. She was a Girl Scout leader and active in PTA
Edith loved Jesus and was a devoted wife and Mother. She was a strong, positive person who was fun to be around. She loved adventure, travel, horses and riding on the back of a Harley.
She was preceded in death by her parents Taylor and Lilah Smith and her brother Bob Smith.
Edith leaves behind a son, Vic Kipgen III (wife - Mary), a daughter, Barbara Kipgen, a best friend- caretaker Stacey Primera and a lot of good friends, relatives and memories.
Funeral Service will begin at 10am at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Fort Stockton, TX. John O'Connell is officiating. Burial will follow.
