Frances Moreno

Frances Gonzales Moreno of Ft. Stockton passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018 in Ft. Stockton at the age of 84. Frances was born in Ft. Stockton on February 10, 1933 to Rafael Gonzales and Francisca Acosta. Frances was also known as "hun", "mom", "Cica" and "Panchy". She was the first Hispanic to work at the Ft. Stockton City Hall. She worked at Farmers and Ranchers Association, was a bilingual teacher aide and was a member of the Pecos County Memorial Auxilary "Pink Ladies". She had great joy being involved with her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, as a Religion class teacher, Eucharistic Minister and Hija de Maria. Frances loved to cook and especially bake. She had a large volume of cook books and loved to cut out recipes from magazines. Her family remembers the holidays especially because the table would be filled with homemade cakes, loafs of different breads, cookies, peanut brittle, fudge, her awesome cheese rolls. She also enjoyed having her nieces and nephews visit no matter how many were at the house "as long as they got along." She was very loving, affectionate and friendly. She would strike up a conversation with anyone about any topic. Frances' favorite saying, which was passed down by her mother was "dejalo a Dios (leave it to God) which sometimes was very hard to do. Towards the end of her life, she would tell her family that she "wanted to go home to mom."
Mrs. Moreno is survived by her husband, Ismael D. Moreno: son, Ismael (B.B.) Moreno Jr.; daughter, Elva Moreno; daughter Loretta (Lorie) and husband Hector Bustamante and two grandsons.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Francisca Gonzales; brothers Pascasio Gonzales and wife Paula and Manuel Gonzales and wife Irene; and sisters Margarita Hernandez and husband Andres, Josefina Flores and husband Ramon and Agueda Nunez.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 1 to 7p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 on Wednesday night. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2018 starting at 10:30 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Ft. Stockton. Burial will follow at the Ft. Stockton Catholic Cemetery.
