Born in Presidio, Texas, on July 8, 1932, to Juan and Maria Sanchez, Isabel later moved to Fort Stockton, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service. On April 8, 1958, she married Herminio Gomez, and together they created a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and devotion to their three children, Juan, David, and Irma. Isabel radiated joy and compassion in everything she did. She was not just a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—she was a source of inspiration and strength to all who knew her. Her heart overflowed with love, and she touched countless lives through her unwavering faith and commitment to serving others. For nearly two decades, she taught Catholic doctrine to students as a CCD teacher, instilling in them the same deep love for God that guided her own life. She found great joy in singing in multiple church choirs at St. Agnes and St. Joseph’s Catholic Churches and welcoming prayer groups into her home for 16 years, where faith and fellowship flourished. She dedicated time to evangelizing to prisoners, bringing hope and encouragement beyond her own community. A proud member of the Guadalupanas of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Isabel gave selflessly, helping prepare meals for grieving families and ensuring that others felt comforted and cared for in their time of need. She spent hours each morning in quiet prayer, a testament to her deep and abiding love for her Savior. Beyond her faith, Isabel embraced life’s simple pleasures. She loved to draw, color, work on word searches, and watch her favorite Spanish novelas. But above all, she found her greatest joy in spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and unconditional love. She was a light in the lives of so many, always kind, selfless, and full of grace. To know Isabel was to witness strength, faith, and boundless love—qualities that will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Isabel is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Herminio Gomez; her dear son, David Sanchez Gomez; her parents, Juan and Maria Sanchez; and ten cherished siblings of her immediate family. She is lovingly remembered and celebrated by her surviving brother, Jesus Sanchez and wife Janie, immediate daughter, Irma Patton, and son-in-law, Jeffrey W. Patton; her son, Juan Sanchez Oyervides; her granddaughters, Hannah Elaine Sager (Garrett) and their soon-to-be son, Oliver Hayes Sager, and Holly Elizabeth Patton (Danny Childress) and their sons, Ridge David and Dakota Ray. She is lovingly remembered by the numerous nieces and nephews and their own 2nd and 3rd generation families, and brother and sister-in-laws on both sides of the Sanchez and Gomez families.
Pallbearers will be Pete Mesa, Jr., Javier Acosta, Charles Benavides, Don Marengo, Raymond Casas and Joe Del Velasquez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeffrey W. Patton and Juan Sanchez Oyervides.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to all who kept Isabel in their prayers and surrounded her with love, and to Chaplain Renni from St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, whose kindness and spiritual guidance were a great comfort in her final days.
Isabel lived her life as a joyful servant of God, a loving matriarch, and a beacon of hope and faith. She will be missed deeply, but her love and legacy will live on in every heart she touched.
