Joe E. Prosise, 86

Joe Edward Prosise passed away due to complications from cancer, on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the age of 86 at Crown Point Health Suites in Lubbock, TX. He was born on December 16, 1930, in Millersview, TX, to William Lewis and Ruth Ellen Prosise. After his father's death, Joe's mother married Benjamin Thompson, affectionately known as Daddy Ben, who became the major father figure in Joe's life.

Joe grew up in Millersview and graduated from Millersview High School. After that, he joined the army and served from 1951-1953. Joe worked for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1953-1958, Rainwater Motor Company from 1957-1963, and finished his career as a mechanic at the Firestone Test Center where he worked from 1963 until his retirement in 1996. He also owned and operated Prosise Appliance Repair serving the people of West Texas for over 20 years.

Joe married Mary Lou Maxwell on January 25, 1955, in Carlton, TX, before later moving to and residing in Fort Stockton, TX. They were happily married for over 62 years. Joe was an active member of the Fort Stockton Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and then an elder. He also spent many Father's Day weeks involved with the Pecos River Family Encampment run by the Sheffield Church of Christ in Sheffield, TX. Joe was also active in Veterans' affairs in his later years and even traveled to Washington D.C. on a Permian Basin Honor Flight.

Joe enjoyed many things in life. He loved studying anything that struck his fancy, including his genealogy, family history, how just about anything worked, and especially the word of God. He was also an avid San Antonio Spurs fan and could be counted on to give you the latest updates on any and everything having to do with Spurs Basketball. Joe also loved visiting with people and socializing. One of the best parts of his day was going to the Fort Stockton Post Office and making conversation all the way there. You could count on him to meet you with a smile, a hug, or a handshake, and just a general sense of joy.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William, Ruth, and Benjamin, and all his siblings, Maggie Williams, W.L. "Dub" Prosise, Thomas Prosise, Marie Williams, Lucy Homburg, Clare Blanche Prosise, Johnnie Dee Otto, and Richard Faver.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Prosise of Fort Stockton; his daughters Brenda (Terry) Moore of Lubbock, TX, Betty (Barry) McCallister of Fort Stockton, TX, and Teresa Goerz of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Jennifer (Marcus) Scott of Lubbock, TX, Daniel (Erica) Moore of Lubbock, TX, Staci (Jeff) Duncan of Midland, TX, and Barrie Lynn (Stevie) Fuentes of San Angelo, TX; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
