Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY-John Charles Ketzler Sr., 82, was called home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, at home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
John was born on March 14, 1932 in Kinsley, Kansas to Cecil Lorenzo Ketzler and Mary Ketzler.
He enlisted in the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Mount McKinley in the Korean Conflict and the USS Raby. He was stationed in Panama and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Missile Crisis of 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1966. In the fall of 1966 he became a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and retired in 1986. During his many years with the Navy and Border Patrol, John touched many lives as he coached shooting teams, who also became lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Betty and Diane, and son Mark Wayne Ketzler.
He is survived by his children, Elaine Sandell, John Ketzler, and Sue (Max) Malone; his wife Marcella Ketzler and children Dwayne (Tracy) Ketzler, Robert (Linda) Ketzler, Marcella (Randy) Trombley, and Matthew Ketzler. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Rosalie Stoops and numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 15 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Sanderson, Texas with David Billeiter officiating. The Border Patrol will preform honors following. The memorial service was entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Stockton.
