John D. McRae Sr., age 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. He was born on December 3, 1936 to John and Lola McRae in San Augustine, Texas. At a young age Mr. McRae served our country in the United States Air Force. He then worked as a border patrol agent for 20 years and stationed at both the Canadian and Mexican borders. He traveled all 48 lower states. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and his coffee. He was an avid reader especially books on war and history. He loved to sit on the porch with his two dogs and grandchildren. And was always out spoken on subjects that disturbed him like Hurricane Carla in 1961, Jimmy Carter, Michigan Winters and the list goes on.
Mr. McRae is survived by his wife of 40 years Tutie McRae; son, John D. (JD) McRae, Jr.; two grandchildren, Brittney Ann McRae-Martinez, and Ronnie Jay Shackelford Jr.
He was preceded in death by father, J.H. McRae; mother, Lola (Odie) Parrish; brother Charles (Chuck) McRae; two sisters, Patsy Ann Williams, Martha Nell Pressley and his daughter Judy Ann McRae-Shackelford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
A memorial will take place the Sanderson High School Auditorium on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 6pm. On January 18, 2015 a graveside service will take place at 1pm in Marfa at Merced Cemetery.
Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend of Fort Stockton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
