Kenneth Ray Gray, Sr., of Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away July 14th, 2020, in Fort Stockton, Texas, at the age of 92.
He was born on January 4th, 1928, to Luther and Mary Alice Gray in Lawton, Oklahoma. In March of 1946, he joined the US Navy and was bussed to San Diego, California. In addition to his basic training, he learned semaphore telegraphy and Morse code. His communications skills were put to use on several different ships including the USS Sierra, USS Piedmont, and the USS Dixie. Not only did Kenneth’s service take him across the Pacific Ocean to patrol the South China Sea, he also spent time in Guam, the Midway Islands, and sailed through one angry typhoon.
Upon his return in 1948, he rejoined his family in Iraan, Texas and began working in the oilfield. He met and married his wife, Pearline, and in 1949, their son, Kenneth, Jr. was born. After drilling wells for over 30 years, Kenneth retired and settled down in Fort Stockton, Texas.
Kenneth Gray, Sr., is survived by his brother Robert “Bob” Gray and wife, Patricia; son, Kenneth Gray, Jr., and wife, Susan; his five grandchildren, Randy Gray and wife Susan, Kyle Gray, Shawna Gray, and husband Rafe, Tonya Rennels, and Kendra Reed, and husband, Aaron; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Ryder, Rylie, Reese, Jordan, Orion, and Corvin; great-great-grandchildren Skylar and Kelton; three sister-in-laws and an abundance of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife of 72 ½ years, Alpha Pearline Huelster Gray; his parents Luther and Mary Alice Gray; and his brothers Donald Gray, Joe Gray and Thurman Gray.
A private service will be held by the family.
