Manuel C. Adauto Jr. , “Sonny”, age 81, passed away on Thursday morning, May 7th, 2020 in Sanderson, Texas, where he desperately wanted to be since suffering a stroke in August. Sonny joins his beloved wife, Becky Adauto who made her journey to heaven in March 2015. Sonny and Becky raised a beautiful family together in Sanderson, Texas. Sonny was incredibly proud & grateful, watching his family grow, which included Sandra and husband, Omar Mediano from Carrollton, Raymond and wife, Ronzina Adauto from Houston, Robert David Adauto from Petal, Mississippi, Veronica and husband, Alex Guillen from Sanderson, and Peter and wife, Jennifer Adauto from The Colony. Sonny was a very committed grandfather to his 10 grandchildren, Danielle Mediano, Ryan Mediano, John Michael Adauto, Angela Adauto, Ashley Adauto, Chris Adauto, Olivia Adauto, William Guillen, Samantha Adauto and Alex Adauto. He was blessed by 8 great-grandchildren living in Monahans and Carrollton. Sonny is survived by his sisters, Antonieta Heimbach in Phoenix, AZ, Alicia Adauto in Roswall, NM, Magdalena Fierro in McKinney, Carmen “Billy” Dominguez in El Paso and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Manuel Adauto Sr, his parents-in-law, Elvira and Rafael Carrerra, his oldest sister Anita Johnson, his youngest brother Dr. Inez Adauto, and one infant brother. Sonny was born on December 29, 1938 to Maria and Manual Adauto Sr. in El Paso, Tx. He graduated from El Paso High School and immediately entered the Army. Sonny attended basic training in Ft Carson, CO in Oct 1958. He was a paratrooper for 101st Airborne Division, stationed in Munich, Germany, and then returned to El Paso and married his bride, Becky Adauto on September 22, 1961. Sonny later retired from the army in Feb 1962. He was honored to serve as a Veteran. His patriotism shined in all the veteran activities that he partook in. Sonny lead by example in respect, patriotism and thoughtfulness. After 11 years in El Paso, Sonny and Becky relocated to Sanderson in 1972, where Sonny worked as a brakeman for the Southern Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1992. Sonny and Becky opened Penelope Flowers and Gifts in Sanderson in 2005, until they closed in 2011, when they both officially retired to enjoy their family with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though retired, Sonny never rested, always looking for friends and families to help in his beloved town of Sanderson, Texas. He enjoyed wood-working, such as building picture frames, screen doors and assorted crafts. Sonny was very involved with Sanderson’s local 4H club, VFW and American Legion. He was very witty and charismatic, always making up nicknames for his friends and telling his family funny stories from the American Legion breakfasts and other local activities. His most treasured time was spent hunting and fishing with his children and especially, his grandchildren. His grandchildren have described him as an early-bird, rising at the site of daylight, a teacher, always teaching them new skills, especially outdoors, respected by his family and his friends, having funny antics and being a great story teller. None of them will forget the fishing and hunting memories with their grandfather. Services will be held at the St. James Catholic Church in Sanderson on Tuesday, May 12th at 1pm followed by graveside services at Santa Rita. Though we know everyone in this town loved Sonny Adauto as much as he loved this town, we are sad to announce that the service is restricted to immediate family only during this pandemic. Anyone is welcome outside of St. James Catholic Church and then follow the family to Santa Rita cemetery and either follow social distancing rules during the graveside service or remain in their cars. Sonny always felt loved here and the family is very appreciative of the support over the years for the Adauto family. Should friends or family desire, donations can be made to Terrell County 4H in Sonny’s remembrance.
