Mary Borden

Mary Emily Slaughter Borden passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in Fort Stockton at the age of 86 years. Emily was born on September 22, 1928, in Anna, Texas. After graduating from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas in 1951, Emily moved to Fort Stockton to start her teaching career. She worked for many years as a librarian for the Fort Stockton Independent School District. She married her husband John in 1955. Emily was involved in the the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She loved being part of the women's Auxiliary (pink lady's) at the Pecos County Memorial Hospital for many years. She was awarded the distinct honor of First Lady of Fort Stockton in 2005.

Emily is survived by her two daughters Jan Borden Mulligan, her husband Jim, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Sara Borden of Fort Stockton; her son David Osborne Borden of Pecos; her two brothers Harold Wilson Slaughter and John Osborne Slaughter; her sister Sara Woods; and grandchild, John Michael Borden of Fort Stockton.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, John David Borden, mother, Annie Laura Wilson; her father, Everett Osburn Slaughter and her three sisters, Doris White, Betty Jo Kannenburg and Kincaid Morgan.

Visitation will be from 4:30-6p.m. on Friday, July 24 at Heritage Funeral Home in downtown Fort Stockton. A Graveside Service will take place at 9:30 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton with Pastor Neely Landrum officiating.
