Roy Dee Armstrong, age 87, of Fort Stockton, Texas, died Tuesday, July 13, 2021, following a lengthy illness. He passed away in the loving arms of his wife Althea (Ali) Lannom Armstrong at his home in Fort Stockton.
Roy was born December 31, 1933, in Crosbyton, Texas to Ida Roswell Armstrong and Roy Dee Armstrong. He was married to Dorothy Armstrong for 58 years until her death in 2014. They had no children.
Roy met Althea (Ali) Lannom Armstrong following Dorothy's death and he knew he had met his life partner. Ali brought to their marriage two adult children, Kevin Childers of Austin, Texas and Lisa Childers Rivera (Tino) of St. Augustine, Florida, and two granddaughters Sofie Rivera and Kat Rivera also of St. Augustine Florida.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Roy Armstrong, his wife Dorothy, and his sister Lenore Stephens, and brother Guy Haverstock. He leaves behind precious nieces and nephews, his loving wife Ali, his Church of Christ family and many other dear friends.
Roy attended college at Texas Tech in Lubbock where he was working toward a degree in business. He left school to work as a seismograph technician for Humble/Exxon/Mobil for 30 years.
His next career was as a realtor for Century 21 in Ft. Stockton where he was eventually able to purchase the business. He took pride in helping many Ft. Stockton families find home for over 20 years.
Roy's greatest pleasure in life was his little 2 seater Ercoupe airplane he called "Dimples". Roy spent hundreds of flight hours in the skies of West Texas in Dimples.
Roy became a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop 51 in Ft. Stockton and loved all the adventures he had with "his boys" over the years. Roy proudly assisted several young men in attaining the rank of Eagle Scout status.
Roy was also a member of the Lions Club for over 30 years, holding every office in the club. He also enjoyed time spent with the Ft. Stockton Rotary Club and the Ft. Stockton Chamber of Commerce. Many lasting friendships were made through those years.
A memorial service honoring Roy Armstrong's life will be held August 1st, 2021 at 2:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Ft. Stockton, Texas.
