Roy Howard Tucker, age 76, of Fort Stockton passed away December 22, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. Howard was born August 23, 1937 in Blackwell, Texas to W.O. and Mary Blair Tucker. He married Leona Mae Backhaus on January 9, 1958 in Roscoe, Texas. Howard worked as a construction inspector for the Texas Highway Department in Sweetwater, Stanton and Fort Stockton, where he retired after 36 years of employment. He was an Elder of Faith Lutheran Church in Fort Stockton for 45 years. He also served for many years on the Board of El Buen Vecino, the Fort Stockton Christian Thrift Store.
Howard is survived by Leona, his wife of 55 years his children, Melinda and husband MaeloOlivas, Rhonda and husband George Luera, all of Fort Stockton his son Rodney and wife Staci Tucker of San Angelo, Texas his sister Helen Woods of Sweetwater his grandchildren Malia Granado of Fort Stockton, Justin Brians of Monahans, Jaren Brians of Odessa, Blair Tucker of San Angelo, and 4 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by 3 brothers, E.J, Earl and Clarence Tucker.
Visitation will take place at Heritage Funeral Home in downtown Fort Stockton on Thursday, December 26 from 122:00 p.m. with funeral service beginning at 2:00. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family invites everyone to make donations to the charity of your choice.
