Simon "Paul" Maldonado Galvan of Sanderson passed away Tuesday February 28th, 2017, in Sanderson at the age of 90 years, surrounded by his family. Simon was born on February 18, 1927, to Pedro and Antonia Galvan in Sanderson, Texas.
Simon worked hard all his life, starting at a young age. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 18th Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division during WWII. He married Consuelo Chavez on February 10, 1950 and the couple celebrated 67 years of marriage in February. Simon enjoyed roping, rodeos, westerns, anything having to do with horses. He rode his palomino horse, Popcorn, up to when he was 86. He loved reminiscing about his military service and younger days.
Simon is survived by his wife, Consuelo Chavez Galvan; his sons, Oscar Chavez Galvan of Sanderson, Carlos Chavez Galvan of Sheffield; his daughters, Diana Escamilla and Rey Villegas of Sanderson, Laura Galvan-Rubio and husband Rene of Sanderson; his brothers, Pedro Galvan, Francisco "Tilico" Galvan; his sister, Aurora "Paris" Galvan; his sixteen grandchildren; and his thirty-one great grandchildren.
Simon is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jose Juan Galvan; his brothers, G.M. "Bebo" Galvan, Modesto Galvan, Daniel "Mino" Galvan, F.M. "Corazones" Galvan; his sister, Petra Casillas.
The Pallbearers are: Steven Calzada, Jonathan Calzada, Marcos Galvan, Michael Galvan, Simon Galvan, Alex Escamilla III, and Christopher McDonald.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 4th, 2017, at 9am at Saint James Catholic Church in Sanderson, Texas. Rosary will begin at 10am. Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 4th, 2017, beginning at 11:00am at Saint James Catholic Church in Sanderson, Texas. Burial will follow at 12pm at Santa Rita Cemetery, Sanderson, Texas.
